New Enterprise Incentive Scheme and Self Employment Development Services fact sheet
What is New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS)?
The Government provides assistance for the establishment of small business through the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS). NEIS assists eligible unemployed people to establish viable small businesses through a provision of:
- small business skills training (including assistance with the development of a business plan);
- income support for up to twelve months; and
- on-going advice and mentoring support during the first year of business operation.
NEIS has proven to be one of the most successful labour market programes administered by the Government. The latest post program monitoring figures show that three months after the cessation of programe support, 82% of participants have achieved positive outcomes. NEIS also creates additional employment. For every ten successful NEIS businesses, on average, eight new jobs are created within those businesses.
